Paper Cutting Artist Living in Northern Virginia

Scott Fain Designs

My tastes have always been somewhat eclectic from the music that moves me  to food I cook and the pop culture I consume. From those varying influences I find inspiration to write, craft, and create to share my ideas with the larger community.

My Journey

I started paper cutting in 2008. I saw a stylishly simple image of an attractive woman facing away from the camera and thought “That would look cool if this picture was made out of paper.” So I spent the better part of a week slowly cutting out shapes to match the image I saw and came up with my first art piece.

I have spent most of my adult life as a real estate investor and consultant, which left me feeling unfulfilled and stressed out. So it is my hope that through my artwork you learn a little more about what moves me and can draw something of value for your journey.

My Process

Most of the art pieces I create are made using very simple tools; an X-acto knife, cutting mat,  invisible tape, card stock paper, and glue.

I visualize the image using reference photos and create a picture that is then translated into paper cutting. Its a process that takes anywhere from 10-15 hours to create an image that’s 8.5” x 11”.

To request a personal commissioned art piece, please visit the Commission a Piece page to find out how to order.
